Edison Gazette – Rotary Club to Hold Wine Tasting Charity Event – Nov. 11, 2011

On Nov. 14, the Rotary Club of Edison will hold their annual “Cheers for Charity” Wine Tasting Event, recognizing the efforts of local communities and student academia.

This year, Rotarians will hold a special wine tasting event at the Crown Plaza from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Along with the South Plainfiled club, assisting in a fund raising event in recognizing high school students and their humanitarian efforts.

“ We will choose one student from each high school in Edison who has strong academic leadership, and community service qualities,” said Young Lee board member and former President of the club.

The Annual Wine Tasting event comprised about 100 to 200 people in attendance will enjoy a wide variety of hors d’oeuvres, prizes, and music through the night provided by jazz pianist Sean Gough member of Go Trio.

Gough a recent Rutgers grad was also a former senior of the month award recipient, and will be back to entertain the crowd.

“ We like to reach out to these students and see their progress in their personal as well as there professional careers afterward, keep them engaged with the community,” said Lee.

Since 1979, the Rotary Club of Edison is known for giving back and understanding the importance of civic duties obliging by “service above self.”

“Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world,” said Lee

Rotary is a worldwide organization consisting about 1.2 million members comprising of business, professional, and community leaders according to Lee.

Rotarians of the Edison club, meet each week of the month for a breakfast program. Members engage in discussions about upcoming events and ideas about their next service.

The Wine Tasting event will be held at The Crowne Plaza at 2055 Lincoln Highway Rt.27 in Edison, NJ. Anyone interested in participating can purchase tickets for $40 at the door, with discounted pricing available to groups of four. The Oak Tree Buy Rite of South Plainfield will sponsor the Wine Tasting Event. All the proceeds will go to local student scholarships, community activities and international humanitarian service projects.

Edison Rotary Club Installation Dinner – Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

Dear Club Members,

As decided in the board meeting, the installation will be in Ming Restaurant in Edison.

We will congregate at 6.30pm. The Chief Guest of the evening is DGE Dr.Tulsi Mahajan and we thank him to accept our invitation at the last moment! Mrs Mahajan has also been invited  but we do not have a confirmation as yet. The Club members and our guests/spouses will number approximately 18 – 20.

This is going to be an informal installation but would still have some official businesses to be conducted. We will have an agenda to cover the following, may not be in the same order:

  • Welcome DGE Mahajan and his charming wife; and a few words of wisdom from the DGE.
  • Induction of the new Rotarian, Sunya Garvin
  • Installation of the new President and Board
  • Brief synopsis of the past Rotary Year 2010-11 – Young Lee
  • Brief plan for the year 2011-12 – Vijay Gupta
  • Vote of Thanks

Minutes from Edison Rotary Club Board Meeting – June 16th, 2011

Minutes – First Board Meeting for 2011-12, held on June 16th, 2011 in Judith Mansbach’s residence.

Members Present: Young Lee, Judith Mansbach, Pamela Carringer, Barbara Czarnecki, Maria Borges, Sunya Garvin and Vijay Gupta

Confirmation of County Meetings – Asst. Governor Victoria Guzman: The following County Meetings have been decided at the district level. Edison Rotary to host the meeting on May 24th, 2012 per the calendar below. The original email form AG Rtn Victoria Guzman will be forwarded to all the members. This is going to be a general meeting between all the clubs in Middlesex. The subject matter for discussion will be district and club business.

· County Meetings:

There are 5 clubs in this section… Rotary Club of Woodbridge, New Brunswick, Sayreville, Edison and Mutuchen.

The various standing and proposed programs of the year were discussed. Responsibilities and action items were disseminated. This is a big list, therefore a separate email is going out on this.

DG Megan Jones Holt is visiting our club on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011, so members please take note of this.

· Clubs Operating Budget

Membership dues to cover Skylark dues, RI Semi Annual Dues, Dist Dues, Installation Dinner, Dist Conference Attendance, Other Dist Event Attendances, etc. in sequence of importance and fund availability. Monika will have the preliminary Operating budget for the members in the next week. We will also have to plan the standing programs… like SOM/SOY budget etc. This will be taken up in a separate meeting.

· Foundation Account, Registration, Tax Returns and Bank Accounts

1. Discussed the CPA firm referred by the Plainsboro Rotary. Young will connect with Rtn Ralph Winters from the Rotary District and will get back with the details on filing the club tax returns and registering the Trust Fund for fund raising.

2. For donation to the RI Foundation, the money will be raised thru fund raising project/s and donate thru Eat, Drink and Share or directly. The Paul Harris Fellow honor to be bestowed on the outgoing IPP (Immediate Past President). This was a past tradition which is being revived.

3. The books of accounts to be maintained. Pam to take the lead, to be assisted by Monika and Vijay.

2. Thursday, January 19th, 2012 – Pamela’s residence

3. Thursday, April 19th, 2012 – Sunya’s residence

The Board meeting ended with a formal vote of thanks to Judith for hosting the board meeting.
